This edited volume contains studies of Ukrainian liberation movement of the mid-20th century. 

It highlights consolidating and dividing factors in the Ukrainian Resistance movement in the times of World War II. The contributions to the volume focus on intelligentsia, women and a number of outstanding personalities in the movement. They analyse issues of historiographical, methodological, and terminological character as well as less studied aspects of ideological, political, and organisational activities of military underground in Ukraine. 

The authors presented in the volume use various theoretical and methodological approaches and represent different regions and generations of scholars, which broadens the range of themes and issues discussed and provides analysis from various perspectives.
