The study analyzes the features and level of research by the Ukrainian foreign historiography of the activities of Yevhen Konovalets, in particular, his contribution to creating the Halychyna-Bukovyna Battalion of the Sich Riflemen (HBBSR) and the Ukrainian Military Organization (UMO). A historiographic reflection and comparative analysis of the works on this problem are carried out. The debatable and least researched issues of the issue in Ukrainian foreign historiography are identified. The memoirs of the participants of the liberation movement, which became an important achievement of Ukrainian foreign historiography, are analyzed. It is concluded that significant factual material based on the memories of participants and sources is collected and summarized in the works of Ukrainian foreign authors. It was found that the first in-depth study of the process of formation of HBBSR and UMO is a significant achievement of the Ukrainian foreign historiography of this problem. At the same time, it is noted that, from a methodological point of view, these researches were on the border between memoirs and historical studies. It was concluded that it was Ukrainian foreign studies that became the basis of modern Ukrainian studies of this problem, because, in the majority, their authors were direct participants in the events. Based on their own memories and sources, they quite vividly and thoroughly reflected the events of that time. However, these works contain emotional, subjective assessments. The figure of Yevhen Konovalets was idealized in them. It is emphasized that the works of foreign authors do not sufficiently reveal the circumstances of the creation of HBBSR, in particular the importance of foreign policy factors. Also, the time frame for the creation of the UMO has not been clarified by foreign authors. However, in the last decade, a number of scientific studies have appeared that objectively and thoroughly reveal the role of Yevhen Konovalets in creating these organizations. It is noted that a large number of historical works on this issue indicate its importance and relevance.
